Alias Abdul RAHMAN

Prof. Dr Alias Abdul Rahman has worked at the Department of Geoinformation, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) since 1984. He received his PhD from the University of Glasgow (UK), his MSc from ITC Netherlands, and his BSc from North East London Polytechnic (UK), a.k.a. the University of East London. He focuses on 3D GIS as a research interest and, more recently, on the Land Administration Domain Model (LADM), associated with FIG Commission 7 and ISPRS Commission 2. He has also been actively involved in local (Malaysia) and international professional societies for many years. He is also active in promoting several major conferences, such as 3D Geoinfo, FIG Education, FIG LADM, and GeoAdvances. He has produced more than 200 technical papers. He served on the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) committee and in the UTM top management tier for several years.

Presentation title: Advancing 3D Land Administration through LADM and BIM Integration

The presentation discusses the current research developments on 3D land administration (LA) that incorporate LADM and BIM/IFC. LADM provides a standardised framework for representing legal information such as rights, restrictions, and responsibilities, while BIM offers detailed digital representations of physical buildings and their components. These two international standards and exchange formats have been in use for quite some time; however, their implementation has yet to be fully realised by some national authorities. Recent works on this 3D LA domain will be highlighted in the presentation.
